Southlanders in 2011 New Zealand Junior Team
Two Southlanders will travel to Lake Dorney, London in August this year to compete in the Junior (U19) World Championships. Jess van Rossum (Invercargill/Verdon College) and Tessa Young (Waihopai/James Hargest) will both take seats in the Junior Womens Quadruple sculling boat after fine performances at the trails over Easter. Southlanders in South Island Team
Trials completed last weekend (16/17 April) resulted in two Waihopai rowers being selected in the South Island U18 team to attend the annual North Island versus South Island regatta this Thursday to Saturday. Coach Jack Allen will also be involved in this regatta after being a selector for the trials. Congrats to Jack, Kristin Froude & Lori Comer.

Waihopai Rowing Club Returns Centennial Scull to the South
Five years after Invercargill Rowing Club became the first southern club to win the Centennial Scull points trophy at the Banklink Nartional Rowing Champs, the Waihopai Rowing Club has repeated the feat. Five golds, one silvers and five bronze medals made up the medals won at the Champs, as well as numerous RPC-contributing results. WHO was also second in the Centennial Oar overall points for the Champs on the back of strong RPC sweepoar showings.

Hargest Scullers Top School in New Zealand

James Hargest Scullers finished 1st in the Sculling Aggregate at the Aon NZ Secondary School Rowing Championship which concluded on Lake Karapiro on Saturday. The Invercargill School picked up a further Gold, three silvers and a bronze medal on the second day of finals to win the Prestigious “President’s Scull” for the most points in Sculling events at the regatta. To put the win in perspective, Hargest also finished 3rd in the overall aggregate behind New Zealand’s more traditional rowing schools, Rangi Ruru from Christchurch, 2nd, and Maadi Cup winners Hamilton Boy’s High School.
